Well, 20 May is the State Championship for Chrysla.  Her gym academy organized a State Qualifier dinner the night before at a chinese buffet restaurant.  She put on my blue cheongsam with my pair of low heels shoes. Haha! Too bad Gavin was not there with her so she did not have any crab coz there was no one to shell it for her. : – )    Anyway, every one of them was given a good luck bracelet and wear it throughout the competitions.

There are only 5 girls, including Chrysla, from her Prep Optional Novice team. She was the only one who attended the first session of the meet coz she is the only 10-yr old from her team.  She was very nervous especially after knowing she has to do balance beam first, which is her weakest.  While she was practicing on the beam, she wobbled and fell down a few times.  And alas! She really did badly on the beam, wobbling and falling down just like during practice. She only managed to get 8.3.

Whew!……finally the beam routine was over and the next was floor exercise.  She did very well for it… with a score of 9.35.  i think this helps to boost her morale and she was more relaxed for the rest of her meet.  Her third routine was vault and she kept her usual standard and scored 9.2.  Last was the uneven bars routines and she was supposed to get from the lower bar to the higher bar.  However, when she was on the lower bar, she did not lean more toward the front and hence did not manage to stand onto the lower bar.  Haha! She just did what she can by completing the routine as smooth as possible.  And to the judge, she thought that that was her actual routines and she got a 9.3 for her bars. That score came as a surpise to us.  She was so grateful that it was finally over for her.

For the award ceremony, we were surprised when we found out that the girls for this session are spilt into two divisions. Coz they had a big group of 10-yr old girls, they had to spilt them according to their date of birth.  Anyway, Chrysla got first for all routines except for beam.  She also got 2nd all around for her division, Junior A (6 to 10 years old).  She was elated and astonished coz she did not think she will get esp with her score for beam.  Her trophy is very tall, think about 60 cm tall.

P5190054 Oh yehrysla's team won the first place.  If we are correct, it is probably based on the total of the best three all around scores for each team. And to let her have good memories, got her a t-shirt with iron-on that she chose.  Not cheap.  $22…. …..

P5190055_3Now in total, she has 5 trophies, 9 medals and 3 ribbons.  So we are facing with a problem… we have no place to put them.  Now can only put the trophies on top of the t.v. and the medals hanging on the standing lamp beside the tv.  Haha!

Singlish – Singapore English

May 11, 2007

Got these two from youtube.  The first is a comedy performed by 2 international students at International Community  in Singapore.  It is pretty hilarious.  Singaporeans will be able to understand it very well.

The 2nd clip is called 'Singlish 101'.  It teaches the foreigners how to use some of the singlish phrases or words.

SINGAPORE: Singapore has emerged as the fastest moving city in the world…literally.

The British Council conducted a study of the walking speed of pedestrians.

And it is official – Singaporeans are the world's fastest walkers!

The British Council carried out the research in 32 cities including London and New York.

It calculated the average time taken for people to walk a distance of over 18 metres (60 feet).

Singaporeans clocked the shortest time of just over 10 seconds (10.55 seconds).

This was followed by Copenhagen (10.82 seconds) and Madrid (10.89 seconds).

New York is at number 8 and surprisingly, London ranked outside the top 10.

The slowest in the study was a city in Malawi – at more than 31 seconds (31.60 seconds).

The British Council said people's walking speed is a reliable measure of the pace of life in a city.

On average, people are walking about 10 per cent faster now, compared to the early 1990s when it last conducted a similar study.

But for Singapore, the pace of life has jumped 30 per cent. – CNA/yy
